Collaborative authors can use this engine to co-write multi-threaded text, stored and displayed as three-dimensional threads. This engine is still in development; usability may be wonky.

Book and Flash application. In this experiment I cut up William S. Burroughs' essay on the cut-up method, using a text randomizer, and laid out the resulting word salad in a 34-page book. Visual consistencies in design throughout the book might help stitch the text together for the reader. Or they might not. Who knows?

This engine turns text into a series of plantlike growths, based on a binary transcription of the alphabet. Each "tree" represents a separate sentence. Copy and paste or type in text, and press the button. Hit return to reset, and remember that the backspace doesn't work.

This generates a series of randomly generated fairy-tale "narratemes," based on Vladimir Propp's typology of Russian folk tales. I've used it in several projects, including the Bunny book.

In the version here, the goal is to write a very small story, using the generated structure, in the square. I did this every day for a while. It was hard.

I used this to make the soft engine prints. Rolling over circles will draw new circles in circles around the first circle. Change color or orientation with the menuon. Press space to turn on the eraser, and esc to toggle the menuon on and off.
